Mobile Clinic
In spite of armed insurrections, floods and hurricanes - that have afflicted the northern part of Haiti, the mobile clinics have treated
many thousands of patients, the poorest of the poor, over the past year. The first clinic is in Choiseul, a rural village of 2800 people, set on a steep mountainside. To reach the clinic Sr JoAnna and three health aides journey 4 miles from the hospital up a steep mountain road to an old chapel. The people of all ages, who come in small groups, are orderly and respectful, grateful to receive care.
The health care aides take the history of the illness, and dispense instructions and free medications after Sister has examined the patients and made a diagnosis. The necessary medicines are readily available on the table behind the group. Another health care aide weighs patients, giving out vaccines and advising parents. Over one hundred patients are seen during a visit! Another mobile clinic site has been added in the hamlet of Carremilot. Two other villages, Thibeau and Carre de Pere, now host prenatal clinics. We will set up another clinic when funding is obtained.
